Box Score

DURHAM, N.H. - The No. 10 Providence College women's ice hockey team (16-10-4, 10-5-2 HOCKEY EAST) was defeated at No. 1 New Hampshire (25-2-1, 14-1-1 HOCKEY EAST) this afternoon by the score of 4-1 at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H. Senior Karen Thatcher (Douglas, Mass.) scored the lone Friar goal while classmate Jana Bugden (Corner Brook, Newfoundland) made a career-high 40 saves in net.

Following a scoreless first period, the Friars allowed a pair goals less than a minute apart mid-way through the second. UNH's Kacey Bellamy scored a power play goal at the 9:45 mark, and was followed by teammate Shannon Clement's power play lamp lighter 13 seconds later.

The Friars would respond with an even strength tally just before the end of the period as Thatcher netted her 18th goal of the season. The Bay State native broke in alone down the slot and wristed a shot that slide inside the left post. Sophomore Kristin Gigliotti (Sauquoit, N.Y.) and junior Sonny Watrous (Albuquerque, N.M.) picked up the assists on the play, and the score stood at 2-1, at the end of 40 minutes.

In the third period, UNH outshot Providence, 18-3, and netted a pair of goals to ice the contest. The Friars racked up nine penalties on the afternoon to just four for the Wildcats. PC also went 0-4 on the power play, while New Hampshire converted three-of-nine attempts. In addition, UNH posted a 44-13 edge in shots and extended its unbeaten streak to 21 games including nine straight victories.

Providence women's ice hockey returns to action on Saturday, February 18 against Boston College. Face off is set for 2:00 p.m. at PC's Schneider Arena.
