PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Brown defeated the Providence College Friars, 4-1, to win the fourth annual Mayor's Cup in women's ECAC hockey action on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Providence, R.I.

The Bears tallied the first goal of the game when Kathleen Kauth took a pass from Jordan Jiskra from behind the net and one-timed a shot high past PC netminder Sara DeCosta's blocker at 3:30 of the first period. Kauth added her second goal of the period to put the Bears up 2-0 with a power-play tally at 17:48.

After a scoreless second period, Brown's Meredith Ostrander netted the Bears' third goal of the game when she wristed in a shot from 10 feet in front of the net at 2:23 of the third. The Friars got on the scoreboard at 10:17 of the third period when Jessica Tabb tipped a blast from the left point during a power play. Brown regained its three-goal lead as Julie Iler was left alone in front of the net and rifled in a wrist shot at 11:06 of the third.

Alison Brewer made 22 saves in the win for Brown. DeCosta recorded 36 stops for the Friars.

With the win, Brown raised its record to 15-2-3 overall and 15-2-3 in ECAC play, while Providence dropped to 16-6-2 overall and 13-5-2 in league play.

Providence College will return to action against Northeastern on Saturday, Feb. 13 in at Boston, Mass. at 4:00 p.m.
