Women's Hockey Upsets No. 1 Ranked Harvard, 1-0
Feb. 6, 2000 Providence, R.I.... --The eighth-ranked Providence College Friars upset the number one ranked, Harvard University Crimson, 1-0 in women's hockey action, on February 6, at Harvard's Bright Hockey Center.
The Friars scored the games only goal at the 3:24 mark of the second period. Harvard goalie Crystal Springer went behind the net to play the puck, the puck deflected past her to PC's Jesscia Tabb (Holland, Mass.), who put into the empty net, Valerie Bono (Woburn, Mass.) assisted on the play.
Sara DeCosta (Warwick, R.I.) preserved the victory, facing 13 shots in the third period, while Providence only managed four shots in the final frame. DeCosta finshed with 25 saves, for her seventh shutout of the season. Harvard's Springer stopped 20 shots in the loss.
Providence record stands at 16-6-3 overall, 10-5-3 in the ECAC, the Crimson drop to 13-3-3 overall, and 11-3-3 in the ECAC.
The Friars will return to action on Feb. 12, at Niagara University, at 3:00 p.m.
