Final Stats

Providence, R.I. - The Friars jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period and went on to defeat Vermont 10-1 at Scheider Arena. Providence now stands at 13-11-4, and 10-2-3 in HOCKEY EAST play while UVM moves to 3-21-2 and 1-13-1 in HOCKEY EAST play.

The Friars' first goal came from Sonny Watrous (Albuquerque, N.M.) at the 11:54 mark, with assists from Mari Pehkonen (Tampere Finland) and Colleen Martin (Woburn, Mass.) Martin's assist was the first of her collegiate career. Pehkonen struck for Providence's next two goals, both of which came on the power-play. Her first, scored at 13:25, was assited by Sarah Feldman (Fall River, Mass.) and Kristin Gigliotti (Sauquoit, N.Y.). Her second, scored at 16:20, was assisted by Watrous and Feldman.

In the second period, Vermont got on the board at 9:52 in the second period when Jessica Murphy scored for Vermont while on the two-man advantage. Providence answered back at 18:19 when Jackie Duncan (Hudson, Que.) converted for her third goal of the season, with assits from Gigliotti and Feldman.

The third period saw PC extend their lead, as they scored six goals in the stanza. Kathleen Smith (Waterloo, Ont.) scored her second goal in as many days 1:02 into the period, with assists going to Duncan and Pehkonen. Feldmen scored next at the 5:37 mark. Jenna Keilch (Clinton Township, Mich.) and Smith were credited the assists. The Friars then scored two shorthanded goals, as Watrous scored at 8:05 while on the penalty kill, followed by Brittany Nelson (Shelburne, Vt.) at 8:50. Kelli Doolin (Dorchester, Mass.) assited on Nelson's goal. Martin closed out the scoring at the 15:00 mark, and Rachel Crissy (Naperville, Ill.) registered an assist on the goal.
 

 

In net, Danielle Ciarletta (Blaine, Minn.) made nine saves and Senior Lauren Florio (North Providence, R.I.) added three saves of her own.

The Friars return to action with two games next weekend. The first, on Saturday, February 10, is an away game in Boston, Mass. at 3:00 pm versus the Terriers of Boston University. Then on Sunday February 11, the Friars renew the oldest rivalry in women' s collegiate hockey when they host the Wildcats of New Hampshire. The game, taking place at Schneider Arena at 2:00 pm, can be seen live on Cox Sports TV.
