Providence, R.I. - The game was tied 1-1 midway through the second period, but Providence scored four unanswered goals to pull away from the Catamounts and earn the 5-1 victory. Providence now stands at 12-11-4, and 9-2-3 in HOCKEY EAST PLAY while UVM moves to 3-19-2 and 1-12-1 in HOCKEY EAST PLAY.

Erin Normore (Cambridge, Ont.) scored the game's first goal with 1:42 remaining in the first period as she took a Jenna Keilch (Clinton Township, Mich.) pass and beat Vermont goaltender Shivaun Siegl. Danielle Tangredi (London, Ont.) was also credited with an assist on the play. Vermont then tied the game at the 13:28 mark of the second period as Caroline Donahue evened the score at one goal apiece. The Friars regained the lead quickly when Normore scored her second goal of the game at the 14:08 mark, with assists from Jackie Duncan (Hudson, Que.) and Kristin Gigliotti (Saquoit, N.Y.).

The Friars would not relinquish their 2-1 lead, and they were able to add three goals in the third period. The first came from Gigliotti, as she blasted a slap shot from the bottom of the circles for Providence's third goal. The goal, assisted by Sonny Watrous (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Sarah Feldman (Fall River, Mass.), came on the power-play. Then, at 16:28, Kathleen Smith (Waterloo, Ont.) was able to score her second goal of the season from in close, making the score 4-1. Smith's goal was assisted by Duncan and Rachel Crissy (Naperville, Ill.). Mari Pehkonen (Tampere, Finland) completed the scoring for the Friars when she scored the Friars' second power-play goal of the game at the 18:21 mark. Feldman and Gigliotti assisted on the goal.

In net, senior Jana Bugden made 15 saves for the Friars, while Siegl added 41 saves of her own.

The Friars play the Catamounts of Vermont tomorrow, February 4. The game will be held at Schneider Arena and will once again start at 2:00 p.m.
