Women's Hockey Wins Second Straight
Feb. 2, 2001 PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team won its second straight game on Friday night at Schneider Arena against Wayne State University 4-2. Wayne State struck first on the evening as Serena Hillman put the Warriors up 1-0 off a double assist from Amy Peters and Katie Jones at the 15:20 mark of the first period. The Friars' Jackie Tamsin knotted the score at 1-1 exactly one minute later on a feed from Jessica Tabb. Wayne State scored once again before the closing minute of the first period on a goal from Jamie Herod, assisted by Jones at 18:36. In the second period, the Friars scored two goals to take the lead, 3-2, as they outshot the Warriors 22-2. Kim Mathias tallied the first goal of the period off a double assist from Tabb and Darlene Stephenson with 10:28 on the clock. Tabb netted a goal of her own on a breakaway at 18:04 from Stepheson and Meredith Roth. In the third, Tabb scored her second goal of the game at 16:59 to give the Friars the 4-2 win. Providence goalkeeper Brigid Keady made 10 saves in the game, while Anna VanderMarliere took in 37 saves for Wayne State. Both played all 60 minutes The Friars (14-8-3) and Warriors (4-16-1) meet again tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, Feb. 3 at 2:00 p.m. in Schneider Arena.
