Women's Hockey Defeats Cornell, 3-2
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Freshman Jackie Tamsin scored at 9:25 of the third period to lead the Providence College Friars to a 3-2 win against Cornell University in women's ECAC hockey action on Saturday, Jan. 30 at Providence, R.I.
After a scoreless first period, Kerstin Matthews got the Friars on the scoreboard at 6:42 of the second period. Katie Lachapelle scored at 8:08 of the second to increase the Friars' lead to 2-0. Cornell's Alison Stewart netted a power-play goal at 12:50 of the second to bring the Big Red within one goal. Colette Bredin evened the game at 2-2 at 8:43 of the third before Tamsin netted the game winner. Sara DeCosta played a strong game in net for the Friars, recording 37 saves. Alanna Hayes made 24 stops in the loss for Cornell. With the win, Providence raised its record to 13-5-2 overall and 10-4-2 in ECAC play, while Cornell dropped to 11-8 overall and 10-7 in league play.
