Women's Hockey Falls 4-2 To No. 1 Boston College

PROVIDENCE, R.I. The Providence College women's ice hockey team was defeated by No. 1 Boston College, 4-2, on Friday night at Schneider Arena. With the win the Eagles remain undefeated and move to 25-0-1 overall and 16-0-0 in the Hockey East. Providence moves to 6-17-4 on the year and 5-9-1 in conference play.

Providence tallied the first goal of the game when senior Haley Frade (Marion, Mass.) scored in the first period when she put back her own rebound to give the Friars a 1-0 lead at 3:36. Sophomore Cassidy Carels (Bruxelles, Manitoba) was credited with the assist when she collected a turnover and passed it ahead to Frade.

Boston College got on the board right before the end of the period at 19:54 when Emily Pfalzer tied the game at one on a power-play goal. She was assisted by Kristyn Capizzano and Alex Carpenter.

Junior Allie Morse (Cottage Grove, Minn.) recorded an impressive 16 saves in the opening period. The Friar defense altered many shots in the stanza, blocking a total of seven.

After a scoreless second, in which Morse made 15 stops, the teams entered the third tied 1-1.

BC's Haley Skarupa scored the go ahead goal at 8:44 of the period to give the Eagles a 2-1 advantage. Kenzie Kent and Kaliya Johnson gather the assists. Skarupa scored again at the 12:00 mark in what proved to be the game-winner. Carpenter and Kent assisted on the game-winning goal.

Carels made it interesting for the Friars when she scored an unassisted goal at 18:04 when she picked off a pass to draw Providence to within one, 3-2.

Boston College sealed the game with an empty net goal at 19:28 by Carpenter.

For the game, Morse tallied a career-high 44 saves. Defensively, the Friars blocked a total of 20 shots in the contest.

BC's Katie Burt made a total of 12 saves for the Eagles.

The Friars will next compete at Vermont on Sunday, Feb. 1 to open up the season Hockey East series between the two teams. Puck drop is set for 2:00 p.m.
