Box Score

BURLINGTON, VERMONT - The No. 9 Providence College women's ice hockey team was upset by Vermont Sunday, losing 1-0 at Gutterson Field House.

Catamount senior Teddy Fortin scored a power play goal with just 3:16 remaining in regulation, beating Friar netminder Genevieve Lacasse from the right of the doorstep.

Providence had several opportunities, outshooting the Catamounts 34-24. Many of the Friar bids were generated by junior Laura Veharanta (La Verne, Calif.), who earned the game's third star. Ultimately, PC could not solve Vermont goaltender Roxanne Douville.

It is the first time Providence has been shutout this season, and the first time it has been held scoreless since a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Mercyhurst on November 21, 2008.

The Friars return to action this Sunday, February 6, when they welcome No. 8 Boston College to Schneider Arena. Face-off is at 2 p.m. and tickets are available by calling the PC ticket office at (401) 865 GO PC.
