PROVIDENCE R.I. -- The No. 10 Providence College women's ice hockey team fell to No. 2 New Hampshire, 7-2, on Sunday, January 29 at Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H. Providence (10-2-1) earned only its second loss of the season, while leading after the first period. With their first HOCKEY EAST loss of the year, the Friars fall to 7-3-2 and 13-8-4 overall.

Senior captain Karen Thatcher (Douglas, Mass.) opened up the game with her team-leading seventh goal on the power play. Senior Ashley Payton (Chesterfield, Mo.) and junior Sonny Watrous (Albuquerque, N.M.) assisted Thatcher on the lone first period goal.

In the second period, UNH opened up a 4-1 lead and scored two of four goals on the power play. The Friars unleashed eight shots and were unable to respond on three power play opportunities in the period.

The Friars gave up three goals before freshman Erin Normore (Ontario, Canada) responded with a power play goal at 9:31 of the third period. Seniors Thatcher and Payton assisted Normore on the play.

The Wildcats outshot the Friars, 44-20. PC went two-for-eight on the power play.

Senior netminder Jana Bugden (Corner Brook, Newfoundland) recorded 28 saves in 44:03 minutes of action. Freshman Stacey Scott (Massena, N.Y.) posted nine saves in 15:57.

The Friars face off against New Hampshire on Wednesday, February 1 at PC's Schneider Arena. Face-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
