Box Score

Durham, N.H. - Providence and New Hampshire faced each other for the second consecutive day, but neither team could pull away for the victory. Providence held leads of 1-0, and 2-1, but the Wildcats were able to earn the tie. Providence now stands at 11-11-4, and 8-2-3 in HOCKEY EAST PLAY while UNH moves to 18-3-4 and 10-1-1 in HOCKEY EAST PLAY.

In the first period, the Friars survived an early UNH barrage as they faced three penalty kill situations in the game's first ten minutes. Sophomore goaltender Danielle Ciarletta (Blaine, Minn.) kept the Wildcats off the board, finishing the period with nine saves, including a right pad save at the 17:55 mark that came from a UNH one-time attempt from the bottom of the circles . Senior Kristin Gigliotti (Saquoit, N.Y.) found classmate Sonny Watrous with a pass to the far blue line to create a breakaway opportunity that Watrous would convert for the game's first goal at 11:54.

New Hampshire scored the game's next goal at 7:33 of the second period to even the game at one goal apiece as Lindsey Caleo (Clinton Township, Mich.) shot in a loose puck she found to Ciarletta's right. Jackie Wedster (Chicago, Ill.) and Shannon Clement (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) were credited with the assists. Providence would answer quickly, as sophomore Erin Normore (Cambridge, Ont.) scored her third goal of the season off of a Sarah Feldman face-off win at 10:01 to regain the lead for the Friars.

At 13:23 of the third period, New Hampshire capitalized on a power-play to even the score once again, this time at 2-2. Micaela Long (S. Boston, Mass.) scored for the Wildcats, with an assist from Martine Garland (Toronto, Ont.). In overtime, both teams generated quality scoring chances, including two shots on Ciarletta from the top of the crease at 1:15, but neither Ciarletta nor UNH goaltender Lucy Schoedel (Ithaca, N.Y.) could not be beat. Ciarletta finished with 40 saves for the Friars, while Schoedel had 16 saves for the Wildcats.

The Friars return to action next weekend as they host the Catamounts of Vermont for a two game series. The games will be held at Schneider Arena on Saturday, February 3 and Sunday, February 4. Both games are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. starts.
