Women's Hockey Defeated by UNH, 5-3
DURHAM, N.H. -- UNH scored four goals in the third period to overcome a 2-1 deficit and defeat Providence College, 5-3, in women's ECAC hockey action on Friday, Jan. 22 at Durham, N.H.
After a scoreless first period, the Friars took a 2-1 lead in the second on goals by Kerstin Matthews at 2:39 and Jackie Tamsin at 17:51. UNH's goal in the second period was scored by Samantha Holmes at 3:05. In the third, UNH's offense came to life quickly as Holmes netted her second of the game 48 seconds into the period to even the game at 2-2. The Wildcats then tallied three consecutive goals to take a 5-2 lead. Corinne Rosen netted the Friars' third goal of the contest on the power-play at 9:46. Sara DeCosta recorded 29 saves in net for Providence. With the loss, Providence falls to 11-5-2 overall and 8-4-2 in ECAC play.
