Women's Hockey Defeats Univ. of Toronto, 4-0

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Providence tallied three first period goals and Sara DeCosta made 27 saves to earn the shutout as the Friars defeated the University of Toronto, 4-0, in women's hockey action on Friday, Jan. 15 at the Lake Placid Tournament in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Sophomore Corinne Rosen wasted little time getting the Friars on the scoreboard as she tallied her eighth goal of the season at 2:48 of the first period. PC's other goals in the first period were scored by senior Katie Lachapelle at 12:14 and sophomore Val Bono at 19:25.

Sophomore Holley Tyng scored the Friars' final goal of the game at 14:57 of the second period.

DeCosta earned her third shutout of the season and the fifth of her career.

With the win, Providence raised its record to 10-3-2 overall.

Providence College will return to action against the Minnesota State (Mankato State) on Jan. 16 at 2:00 p.m. in Lake Placid, N.Y.
