No. 9 Women's Ice Hockey Shuts Out UNH, 2-0

DURHAM, N.H. - Junior goaltender Genevieve Lacasse (Scarborough, Ontario) earned her 12th career shutout as the ninth-ranked Providence College women's ice hockey team upended host New Hampshire, 2-0, Friday at the Whittemore Center.

The Friars, who had not one at "the Whitt" until last season, have now won three straight in Durham.

After a scoreless first period, the Friars broke through midway through the second. At the 10:15 mark of the middle period, junior Kate Bacon (Chanhassen, Minn.) fed senior Alyse Ruff from behind the net. The co-captain deposited her sixth of the season for the Friars' 1-0 edge.

Providence added insurance late in the third period. At 14:53, junior Abby Gauthier (Lynn, Mass.) stole the puck in the neutral zone and skated in all alone, beating the goalie between the pads for hr fifth of the year.

Lacasse stopped 31 shots to earn the shutout, her third of the season.

The two programs meet again tomorrow night. The Wildcats visit Schneider Arena for a 7 p.m. face-off. Tickets are available by calling the PC ticket office at (401) 865 GOPC.
