PROVIDENCE R.I. -- The Providence College women's ice hockey team skated to a tie with Minnesota State Mankato, 3-3, on Saturday, January 14 at Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. Senior Karen Thatcher (Douglas, Mass.) posted the first and last goal for the Friars. The Friars remain unbeaten (11-0-1) when a player scores two or more points.

At 8:07 of the first period, Thatcher posted her 12th goal on the season with assists from junior Sonny Watrous (Albuquerque, N.M.) and freshman Katy Beach (Middlebury Heights, Ohio). Beach earned her first collegiate assist on the play. At 12:10, the Mavericks responded and knotted the score, 1-1, heading into the second period with a goal by Noelle Needham. Kristina Bunker earned her fourth assist of the season on the play.

Junior Kristin Gigliotti (Sauquoit, N.Y.) recorded her 11th goal of the season at 2:08 of the second period. The Friars came out aggressive after a losing a neutral zone face-off. The puck was deflected to Gigliotti after sophomore Cherie Hendrickson (Boxford, Mass.) poked the puck away from a Maverick defender. Gigliotti did not hesitate and slapped a shot in the upper right corner of the net. Thatcher scored her second goal of the game at 6:40 of the second period that gave Providence a comfortable 3-1 advantage.

Andrea Herold posted her first goal of the season and slimmed the Friar advantage at 11:36 of the second period. Brittany Mackley was credited with the assist. Amanda Stohr knotted the game at 3-3 with a goal at 3:37 in the third period. Stohr was assisted by Bunker and Needham.
 

 

The Friars went 1-for-5 on the power play and five-for-five on the penalty kill. The Mavericks outshot Providence, 35-33.

Senior netminder Jana Bugden (Corner Brook, Newfoundland) made a game-high 32 saves, while Maverick goalie Britni Kehler mad 30 saves in the net.
