Madison, Wis. - The No. 2 ranked Badgers scored three goals in the second period on their way to defeating the Friars 5-0 at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis. With the victory, the Badgers extended their unbeaten streak to nine games, and improved their overall record to 20-1-3. Providence falls to 9-10-3 on the season.

For the second straight afternoon, the first period featured defensive hockey by both the Friars and the Badgers, as the Badgers were able to out shoot the Friars 6-5 in the period. Wisconsin's Jinelle Zaugg (Eagle River, Wis.) generated a quality scoring chance at the 17:50 mark of the period as she came down the far boards on a partial breakaway, but Friar goaltender Danielle Ciarletta (Blaine, Minn.) made a glove save.

The Badgers opened the scoring early in the second while on the penalty-kill. Jasmine Giles (Ottawa, Ontario) took advantage of a Friar turnover and found the back of the net at 2:31 of the period. The goal was unassisted. Senior Forward Sara Bauer (St. Catherines, Ontario) gave the Badgers a 2-0 lead at 12:58 when she chipped in a rebound chance over Ciarletta's shoulder, for Wisconsin's first even-strength goal of the weekend. Emily Morris (Messena, N.Y.) assisted on the score. Meghan Duggan (Danvers, Mass.) continued the scoring late in the second period, putting the Badgers up 3-0 at 15:48. In the third period, Wisconsin took advantage of another Friar turnover as freshman Kyla Sanders (Parrish, Fla.) converted an Emily Krantz (Waukesha, Wis.) pass at 9:30. The Badgers then closed out the scoring at the 19:27 mark while on the power-play, as Heidi Kletzien (Manitowoc, Wis.) beat Friar goaltender Jana Bugden (Corner Brook, Newfoundland) at 19:27.

Ciarletta and Bugden combined to make 24 saves for the Friars. Senior Christine Dufour (Riviere-du-Loup, Que.) made 17 stops to earn the shut-out victory for the Badgers.

The Friars return to HOCKEY EAST action next weekend as they face two conference foes. Providence plays the Huskies of Northeastern University on Saturday, January, 20 in Boston, Mass. at 2:00 p.m. Then the Friars return home to face the University of Maine Black Bears on Sunday January, 21 at 4:00 p.m.
