PC Women's Hockey and Brown University Skate To A Scoreless Tie

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College Friars skated to a scoreless tie with the Brown University Bears, at Schneider Arena, on January 9, 2000. The two teams were declared co-champions of the 1999-00 Mayor's Cup, with the defending champions, Brown retaining the cup.

The fifth annual Mayor's Cup was the first tie in the history of the series, and the contest also marked the first scoreless tie in the history of both Brown and Providence's hockey programs.

PC's Sara DeCosta (Warwick, R.I.) and Brown's Ali Brewer, two of the country's top goaltenders, were spectacular in net, stopping 32 and 29 shots, respectively.

Brown, ranked fourth in the nation, moves to 8-2-3 overall, 7-1-3 in the ECAC, while the eighth-ranked Friars are now 9-4-3 overall, 6-3-3 in the ECAC

The Friars will return to action on Saturday January 15, at Maine, at 7:00 p.m.
