PC Women's Hockey and Harvard Skate To A 1-1 Tie
Jan. 8, 2000 PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College Friars skated to a 1-1 tie versus the Harvard University Crimson, at Schneider Arena, on January 8, 2000. The Friars set the tone early in the penalty filled contest, 52 seconds into the game, freshman Jenn Butsch (Berlin, Vt.) skated behind the net and found Jennifer Kranz (Waukesha, Wis.) in front of the crease, Kranz beat Harvard goalie Crystal Springer, to give the Friars an early 1-0 lead. The score remained 1-0, until early in the second, when Harvard's Jennifer Botterill found a streaking Tammy Shechuck in front of the net, for the game-tying goal. Harvard out shot the Friars 46-26 in the game, including seven to one, in the overtime period. The real story of the game was the play PC goalie Sara DeCosta (Warwick, R.I.), who turned away 45 shots in the contest. Springer stopped 25 shots, for the Crimson. Combined, the teams were 0-16 on the power play, for the night. Providence now stands at 9-4-2 overall and 6-3-2 in the ECAC, while Harvard is 10-2-2, 8-2-2.
