Friar senior honored with Distinguished Student-Athlete award.
Alyse Ruff enters her first year as a graduate assistant for Providence. The Oregon native, who is pursuing a Masters in Business Administration degree, will work extensively as a video coordinator.
Ruff joins the staff after a stellar, four-year playing career with the Friars. She registered career totals of 42 goals and 50 assists for 92 points - the best four-year Friar total since Kristin Gigliotti (103) and Sonny Wattrous (137) graduated in 2007. In addition, Ruff is third on the Providence career games played list with 142.
The Providence co-captain during her senior campaign of 2010-11, the center was second on the team with 26 points, helping guide PC to the program's ninth consecutive trip to the Hockey East Semifinals. Ruff led the team with 20 assists and a remarkable plus/minus rating of +26. She was second on the squad with four game-winning goals, including an overtime strike at Colgate on October 16.
Ruff garnered several individual honors during her playing career. She was the only unanimous selection to the Hockey East All-Rookie team in 2008, a 2010 Hockey East Honorable Mention, and a three-time Hockey East Academic All-Star. She also earned multiple spots on the Jewish Sports Review's All-America team.
