Providence to Host Brown in Third Annual Women's Hockey Mayor's Cup
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The third annual women's ice hockey Mayor's Cup Game between Providence College and Brown University will be played on Friday, Jan. 23 at PC's Schneider Arena at 7:00 p.m.
The Providence College Friars are seeking their first Mayor's Cup title. Brown captured the inaugural Mayor's Cup in 1996 (4-3) and also won last year's match up (4-1).
Brown has posted a 9-4-3 mark this season, including a 6-2-2 record in ECAC play. The Bears are currently in fifth place in the ECAC standings and enter the game with a six-game unbeaten streak (4-0-2). Brown is led on offense by sophomore Jordan Jiskra (Bottineau, N.D.) who has registered eight goals and nine assists in 16 games this season. In goal, sophomore Alison Brewer (Racine, Wis.) has registered a 7-2-3 mark, a 2.14 goals against average and a .930 save percentage.
In addition to seeking its first Mayor's Cup title, the seventh-place Friars will be looking to gain some ground in the ECAC standings. Providence has registered a 4-15 mark and a 4-6 record in league play. Two-time ECAC Rookie of the Week Jessica Tabb (Springfield, Mass.) leads the team in goals (15) and points (23). Sophomore Megan Marfione (Reading, Mass.) and freshman Heather Wilcox (Fairfield, Conn.) have split the goaltending duties this season for the Friars. Marfione has a 4.16 goals against average and a .833 save percentage, while Wilcox has a 4.50 goals against average and a .832 save percentage.
