11 Friars Invited to USA Hockey Women's National Festival
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Seven former Providence College women's
hockey players and four current Friars were invited to attend the 1997 USA
Hockey Women's National Festival, which will be held in Lake Placid, N.Y.,
on August 21-26. The Festival will serve as part of the selection process
for the 1998 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team.
Chris Bailey ('94, Marietta, N.Y.), Laurie Baker ('99, Concord,
Mass.), Alana Blahoski ('96, St. Paul, Minn.), Lisa Brown-Miller ('88,
Union Lake, Mich.), Sara DeCosta ('00, Warwick, R.I.), Cammi Granato ('93,
Downers Grove, Ill.), Catherine Hanson ('98, Marquette, Mich.), Vicki
Movsessian ('94, Lexington, Mass.), Kelly O'Leary ('90, Auburn, Mass.),
Stephanie O'Sullivan ('95, Dorchester, Mass.) and Jessica Tabb ('01,
Springfield, Mass.) all have been invited to the Festival and will try to
earn a spot on the U.S. National Team.
A total of 54 players were selected to participate in the Festival
based on their performance with the U.S. Women's National Team, at the 1997
USA Hockey Women's Open Tryouts and at the 1997 USA Hockey Women's Junior
Camp. The players will be divided into three teams, with each team playing
eight games during the Festival.
At the conclusion of the Festival on August 27, USA Hockey will
announce the 24 players that have been selected for the U.S. Women's
National Team.
