Katharine Lary And Melissa McGow Earn STX/NFHCA Second-Team Regional All-America Honors In Field Hockey
Nov. 17, 2003 PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College sophomore forward Katharine Lary (Canaan, N.H.) and freshman forward Melissa McGow (Branford, Conn.) earned STX/NFHCA Second-Team Regional All-America honors in field hockey. The National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFHCA) announced its selections for the Regional All-America Teams on Monday, November 17. Lary played 14 games for the Friars before an injury sidelined her for the final five games of the 2003 season. She led the team in scoring (24 points) and assists (eight) and was second on the team in goals scored (eight). Lary was credited with two game-winning goals on the season and tallied assists on three other game-winning goals for the Friars. Lary also finished the regular-season ranked sixth in the BIG EAST in overall scoring. She earned BIG EAST Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors twice, on September 1 and September 15. A native of Canaan, N.H., is the daughter of Eileen and Ken Lary.
McGow started all 19 games for the Friars this season at forward. She finished the 2003 season second on the team in scoring with 20 points on two assists and a team-leading nine goals. McGow finished the regular season ranked 12th in the BIG EAST Conference in overall scoring. She scored three game-winning goals on the season and registered the first hat trick of her collegiate career in a 4-1 victory over New Hampshire on September 26. McGow becomes just the second freshman in program history at Providence to earn Regional All-America honors in field hockey. Cathy Guden '93, earned Second Team Regional All-America honors as a freshman in 1991. McGow, native of Branford, Conn, is the daughter of Barth and Patricia McGow.
