PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) released its selections to the 2001 STX/NFHCA Division I Regional All-America First and Second Teams, on Tuesday, November 13, 2001. Providence seniors Katie Willett (Biddeford, Maine) and Kara Lukens (Pennsburg, Pa.) were among the 32 student-athletes chosen to the Northeast Region First and Second Teams.

Willett, the Friars' center back, was named a First-Team Northeast Regional All-American. She played in all 19 games this season, and finished fourth on the team in scoring, with a career-high seven points on two goals and three assists. She also was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. Willett was an All-BIG EAST Second-Team selection at the completion of her sophomore and junior campaigns. She is the daughter of Kathleen and Michael Willett.

Lukens was named to the Northeast Regional All-America Second Team. She scored her first collegiate goal and tallied the first assist of her career, for a total of three points. She also registered one defensive save. Lukens was a Second-Team All-BIG EAST selection. She is the daughter of Allen and Carolyn Lukens.

Providence finished the season with an 11-8 overall record and a 1-4 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. Other than the BIG EAST Tournament, the Friars made their first appearance in post-season play since 1990, as they earned an invitation to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship Tournament held in Hanover, N.H. on November 10-11. The Friars joined the tournament field as the fourth seed, and fell to top-seed and host, Dartmouth College, 2-0.
