Five Providence College Field Hockey Players Earn All-BIG EAST Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Five Providence College field hockey players received All-BIG EAST accolades at the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship banquet on Friday, November 6. Senior Nellie Poulin (Oakland, Maine) was unanimously named First-Team All-BIG EAST for the third-consecutive season. Seniors Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) and Adrienne Marois (Auburn, Mass.) along with juniors Julie Ruggieri (Barrington, R.I.) and Jaime Lipski (Dallas, Pa.) were named Second-Team All-BIG EAST. Poulin, who has 110 career points at Providence, ranks seventh on the schools all-time scoring list. She ended the season leading the Friars in scoring with 30 points on 14 goals and two assists. She also led the team in scoring last season with 33 points. Poulin finished second on the team in scoring both her freshman and sophomore seasons. On September 6 she recorded her second-career hat trick with three goals against the University of New Hampshire. A year ago, Poulin was an NFHCA Third-Team All-America selection. Marois earned Second-Team All-BIG EAST honors for the first time in her career. Ending the 2009 season with five goals and 10 assists, she ranks 11th on the all-time assist list at Providence. Marois scored at least one point in nine-consecutive games including the lone goal for the Friars in their final game of the season. Chamberlain has earned All-BIG EAST accolades every season at Providence. She is the first Friar in program history to be named First or Second-Team All-BIG EAST four-straight seasons. Chamberlain finished the 2009 season with a 1.91 goals against average and a .746 save percentage. In 2006 and 2007 she was named First-Team All-BIG EAST. She also was selected Second-Team All-BIG EAST in 2008. Chamberlain finished her career at Providence with a 51-30 record, including 20 shutout victories. She owns a 1.49 goals against average and a .774 save percentage for her career.
Ruggieri was named Second-Team All-BIG EAST for the first time in her career this season. Ruggieri finished the season fourth on the team in scoring with 19 points on eight goals and three assists. On October 9, Ruggieri scored two goals and provided one assist in the Friars 8-0 victory against Rutgers. Lipski who also was named Second-Team All-BIG EAST for the first time, played deep center mid for the Friars this season. She recorded six assists on the year and was the stopper on penalty corners. Last season, she was a Second-Team All-Region honoree. She also earned an invite to U.S. Junior National Camp in 2009. |
