BIG EAST Conference Announces Post-Season Honors For Field Hockey
Nov. 2, 2001 CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The BIG EAST Conference announced its 2001 All-BIG EAST selections on Friday, November 2 in Chestnut Hill, Mass. at the BIG EAST Championship banquet. Providence senior Katie Willett (Biddeford, Maine) was honored as a member of the All-BIG EAST First Team. Senior Kara Lukens (Pennsburg, Pa.) and junior Lyndsey Brooks (New Fairfield, Conn.) were named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. Willett, a defender on the Friar field hockey team, finished the regular season with a career-high two goals and three assists for seven points. She was honored as an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection in 1999 and 2000, and has earned BIG EAST Academic All-Star recognition in each of the last three years at Providence. Willett is a native of Biddeford, Maine, where she competed at Biddeford High School and earned All-State and All-Conference honors in 1996 and 1997. She is the daughter of Kathleen and Michael Willett. Lukens, the teams' sweeper, finished the regular season with one goal and one assist for three points. She also registered one defensive save. Lukens competed scholastically at Upper Perkiomen High School, where she was an All-State selection and Philadelphia Inquirer Second Team honoree. Lukens attended Temple University, before transferring to Providence where she has competed for the Friars for the last two seasons. She is the daughter of Allen and Carolyn Lukens. Brooks, a midfielder, finished the regular season with two goals and one assist for five points. She was selected to the All-BIG EAST Rookie Team as a freshman in 1999, and was a BIG EAST Academic All-Star in 2000. Brooks, a high school All-American, played scholastically at Brewster High School in Brewster, N.Y. She was a two-time All-State, All-Section and All-League selection. She is the daughter of Kenneth and Carol Brooks. The Friars finished their regular-season schedule with an 11-7 overall record and a 1-4 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. PC finished in a three-way tie for fourth place in the conference standings. The Friars post-season hopes remain alive, as they await an invitation to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast Championship.
