Field Hockey Players Henni Tietze And Caitlin Malone Honored By BIG EAST

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Providence College field hockey players Henni Tietze (Sankt Augustin, Germany) and Caitlin Malone (Ossining, N.Y.) were honored by the BIG EAST Conference on Thursday, November 1 at the annual championship banquet in Louisville, Ky. Tietze, a defender, was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team, while Malone, a midfielder, was tabbed a Second-Team selection.

    The duo leads a talented Friar roster, which clinched its first BIG EAST Tournament berth since 2009. Through 17 regular-season games, Tietze recorded a career-best 24 points on a team-high 10 goals and four assists. Malone led Providence with a career-high 26 points on nine goals and eight assists.

    Tietze earned Second-Team All-BIG EAST recognition in 2011 as a freshman, and was selected as a member of the 2012 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Malone earns post-season league honors for the first time in her career.

    Providence begins post-season play on Friday, November 2 in the semifinal round of the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship against top-seeded Syracuse. The game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Trager Stadium in Louisville, Ky. Connecticut, who claimed the No. 2 seed, and third-seeded Louisville will face off in the second semifinal at 7:30 p.m. The winner of each semifinal will advance to the championship game on Sunday, November 4 at 1:00 p.m. in Louisville, Ky.
