Field Hockey Prepares For Cross-City Match At Brown

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team heads to the East Side to face Brown University on Tuesday, October 16 at 4:00 p.m. in a non-conference match-up. The Friars are in the midst of a two-game win streak having defeated Vermont (4-2) on October 8 and BIG EAST foe Villanova (1-0) on October 13.

    Junior Caitlin Malone (Ossining, N.Y.) leads the Providence offense with 22 points on eight goals and six assists. She was recently honored as BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on October 15. A trio of sophomores round out the list of double-digit scorers, including Steph Gugliemlo (Castle Rock, Colo.), Henni Tietze (Sankt Augustin, Germany) and Kaleigh FitzPatrick (Dedham, Mass.). Guglielmo and Tietze each own 16 points on six goals and four assists, while FitzPatrick checks in with 13 points on three goals and a team-best seven assists. Ten different players have scored goals for Providence, including eight players with two or more tallies.

    Senior Kathi Weidman (Millersville, Pa.) has played 761 minutes in goal for Providence and owns a 2.12 goals against average and a 0.712 save percentage. Weidman has a record of 6-4 this season, including two shut-out victories.

    Providence will return home to Lennon Family Field to host BIG EAST opponent Rutgers on Friday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m.

    BROWN (3-8)... The Brown University field hockey team enters Tuesday's game with a 3-8 overall record. The Bears have recorded each of their wins on their home field, where the team is 3-3. Brown is led offensively by two players with double figures in the scoring column, including Meghan O'Donnell (10 points) and Hannah Rogers (10 points). O'Donnell has scored a team-best five goals, while Rogers has collected four goals and two assists. Clayton Christus is third among her teammates in scoring with nine points on three goals and three assists.

     

     

    Shannon McSweeney has played 770 minutes in the cage this season and owns a 3.27 goals against average and a 0.745 save percentage.
