PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team moved up one spot in the NFHCA Division I National Coaches' Poll to No. 18 (148 points). The poll was released on Tuesday, October 14. It marks the second-straight week the Friars have been nationally ranked. The Friars were earning votes in the poll each of the previous four weeks. Last week, the Friars posted a 1-1 record. On October 11, Providence defeated then-No. 16 Rutgers, 2-0, in Providence, R.I. On October 12, the Friars fell to regional foe Boston University, 2-0 in Providence, R.I. The Friars are one of five BIG EAST Conference teams in the NFHCA Division I National Coaches' Poll. Syracuse, which remains the only unbeaten team in the nation (14-0), is currently ranked No. 1. The Orange received 34 first-place votes and 916 points overall. Connecticut is ranked ninth (586 points), while Louisville sits at No. 11 (447 points). Providence is ranked 18th, followed by Rutgers, who dropped three spots to 19th (134 points). Providence College currently owns a 9-6 overall record and will return to action on Saturday, October 18 against No. 11 Louisville in a BIG EAST Conference regular-season match-up. The game will be played at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. The last time the two teams met, Providence earned a 2-0 victory in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship in Syracuse, N.Y.
