PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College field hockey player Meghan Holden (Worcester, Mass.) earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday, October 8 for her performance last week on the playing field with the Friars. Senior defender Michalagh Stoddard (Norwood, Mass.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

Holden propelled the Friars to a 2-1 record last week with eight points on three goals and two assists. Prior to her offensive outburst last week, she had totaled just eight points in the Friars' first 11 games. Holden now leads the team in scoring with 16 points on five goals and six assists. On October 3, Holden started the week with one goal and one assist in a 3-0 victory against 10th-ranked Boston College. She followed with one goal against 5th-ranked Iowa on October 6 and a goal and one assist vs. Northwestern on October 7.

Stoddard, a defender, tallied five points last week in PC's three games and is currently tied for second on the team in scoring with 15 points on five goals and five assists. Stoddard netted one goal in PC's 3-0 victory against 10th-ranked Boston College and a second in the Friars' 4-3 overtime win at Northwestern. She also added one assist against 5th-ranked Iowa.

The Friars currently stand at 9-5 on the year and will host BIG EAST foe Syracuse on Friday, October 12 at 7:00 p.m. The Orange are ranked 18th in the latest NFHCA Division I National Coaches' Poll, released on Tuesday, October 9. The match-up will take place at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. Providence will remain at the Complex for a non-conference game against Princeton on Sunday, October 14 at 1:00 p.m.
