PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College junior goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for field hockey on Monday, October 6. Chamberlain helped guide the Friars to a 2-1 record last week, allowing just three goals in 231 minutes of action. Chamberlain started the week with two saves in a 2-1, double-overtime, victory against 13th-ranked Boston College on October 1 in Providence, R.I. She followed with her fourth shut-out victory of the season, as Providence defeated BIG EAST foe Villanova, 3-0, in Villanova, Pa. It also marked the 16th shut out of her career, as she finished the game with four saves. Chamberlain finished the week with a season-high 14 saves in a 2-0 loss to 12th-ranked Princeton in Princeton, N.J. For the week, Chamberlain posted a 0.91 goals against average and a 0.870 save percentage. In addition to Chamberlain being named Defensive Player of the Week, junior defender Adrienne Marois (Auburn, Mass.) was named to the five-player BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Marois led the Friars in scoring in Providence's three games last week with four points on two goals. She netted the first goal of the game against No. 13 Boston College in PC's 2-1, double-overtime, win. She followed with her second goal of the week against Villanova. The Friars return to action on Saturday, October 11 against BIG EAST foe Rutgers. The game will be played at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. and will begin at 1:00 p.m.
