Lancaster And Guilbert Named To BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll For Field Hockey

Sept. 25, 2017

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Two Providence College field hockey players were named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, Sept. 25. Seniors Allie Lancaster (Cornville, Maine) and Megan Guilbert (Morganville, N.J.) each played a key role in the Friars’ 4-1 win over BIG EAST foe Villanova last Friday. It marks the first weekly honor for Lancaster. Guilbert’s earns BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll status for the second time this season, having previously been recognized on Aug. 28.

Lancaster tallied a career-high three points in the Friars’ victory against ‘Nova with one goal and one assist. Her assist, the first of her career, gave Providence a 1-0 lead which extended into halftime. She added a goal of her own on a tip-in to make the score 3-0 in the 60th minute. Overall, she scored her goal on her only shot attempt of the match.

Guilbert owned a clean sheet against Villanova for 70 minutes of play and collected six saves before the Wildcats finally found the back of the cage as time expired on a penalty corner. Four of Guilbert’s saves came during the first half and the senior helped fend off six of the Wildcat’s seven penalty corner opportunities in the game.

With the victory, the Friars improved to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the BIG EAST Conference. Providence returns to action on Friday, Sept. 29 against top-ranked Connecticut at 6:00 p.m. in Storrs, Conn. The Friars return home to Lennon Family Field on Sunday, Oct. 1 to host non-conference foe Fairfield. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
