The Providence College field hockey team is ranked 19th in the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I National Coaches' Poll for the week of September 22, 2009. The Friars received 147 points in the poll, and are one of four BIG EAST Conference members to earn a spot in the top-20.

This past week, the Friars upset No. 4 Princeton University by a score of 2-1 on September 20, 2009. Princeton, who was previously undefeated dropped three spots in the poll. The Friars return to the top-20 after a two week absence, at which time the friars were among the list of schools receiving votes.

The other top-20 BIG EAST institutions are No. 5 University of Connecticut who received 855 points. Syracuse University is ranked No. 6 with 802 points and one first place vote, while is Louisville ranked No. 16 with 275 points.

The Friars next game is against No. 6 Syracuse at Coyne Field in Syracuse, N.Y. at 12:00 p.m. The Friars return to action a day later against the University of Albany who are just outside of the top-20 with 38 points. The game will be held at Alumni Field in Albany, N.Y. at 2:30 p.m.
