PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College sophomore Katharine Lary (Canaan, N.H.) was named BIG EAST Conference Offensive Player of the Week in field hockey, for the week ending Sunday, August 31. The announcement was made by the BIG EAST Conference office on Monday, September 1.

Lary scored the first two goals of her collegiate career in a 5-4 overtime victory against Rider on Sunday, August 31. Lary's first goal came in the first half of play versus the Broncs and tied the score, 1-1. Lary scored her second goal of the game on a penalty corner as time expired at the end of regulation to tie the game, 4-4, and force overtime. The Friars went on to win the game, 5-4, in the first overtime session.

Providence College currently holds a record of 1-0 and will participate in the Temple Tournament on September 6-7 in Philadelphia, Pa. The Friars will face Temple in the first round of the four-team tournament on Saturday, September 6 at 11:00 a.m. PC will face either North Carolina or Michigan State on Sunday, September 7. During the 2002 season, Providence compiled a 8-12 overall record. Five of PC's 12 losses a year ago came in overtime, including three defeats in penalty strokes.
