PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team has been picked to finish fourth in the 2017 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches’ Poll, released on Aug. 17. Senior forward/midfielder Megan Hamilton (Warrington, Pa.) and sophomore defender Floor Rozemeijer (Santpoort-Zuid, Holland) represented the Friars as members of the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

Connecticut was picked to win the league, having compiled seven first-place votes and 49 points overall. Liberty was picked second (41 points, one first-place vote), followed by Old Dominion (35 points) and Providence (33 points).

Hamilton is a three-time All-BIG EAST selection, having earned First-Team honors in 2016 and Second-Team recognition in 2015 and 2014. Last season, she finished fourth on the team in scoring with 13 points on five goals and three assists. She has reach double figures in the points column during each of her three seasons with the program. She enters the 2017 season ranked tied for 22nd all-time at Providence in career scoring (59 points), tied for 17th in career goals (24) and tied for 32nd in career assist (11). Hamilton is one of seven seniors to make the 11-member Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

Rozemeijer was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on two occasions (9/26, 10/3) and earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team. She also was awarded a spot on the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team. Heading into the 2017 campaign, Rozemeijer is one of three sophomores to make the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

UConn led the conference with four selections on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.  Providence and Liberty each had two players named to the team, while Villanova, Old Dominion and Temple each had one player on the preseason squad.
