PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College field hockey player Kara Lukens (Pennsburg, Pa.) has been selected unanimously to the 2002 Preseason All-BIG EAST Field Hockey Team. The announcement was made by the BIG EAST on Thursday, August 1.

Lukens, a 2002 co-captain, earned All-BIG EAST second-team and STX/NFHCA Second-Team Regional All-America honors in 2001. Lukens, the team's starting sweeper, finished the 2001 season with one goal, one assist and one defensive save. The Friars celebrated their first winning season since 1997 (11-8), and advanced to the semifinal round of Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship.

Lukens is the daughter of Allen and Carolyn Lukens, who reside in Pennsburg, Pa. She played scholastically at Upper Perkiomen High School, where she was an All-State and All-Conference selection.

PC opens the 2002 schedule in Storrs, Connecticut to participate in the University of Connecticut Tournament. The Friars will face Vermont at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, and will take on Hofstra on Sunday, September 1 at 2:00 p.m.
