PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
Providence College junior defender Emilie Stehly (Valley Center, Calif.) will compete for New England at the 2011 U.S. Field Hockey High Performance Junior Women's National Championship at the National Training Center in Virginia Beach, Va. The event is scheduled to be held from June 18-25.
The event showcases teams from six U.S. Field Hockey High Performance Training Centers. Stehly and her New England teammates will play five games, leading up to the medal round on June 25. Action begins on June 18 as New England faces New Jersey at 8:00 p.m. New England also will face Pennsylvania (6/19, 8:00 p.m.), Midwest (6/21, 6:15 p.m.), South (6/22, 4:30 p.m.) and Mid Atlantic (6/24, 4:30 p.m.).
The medal round on June 25th will determine fifth/sixth place (4:00 p.m.) and third/fourth place (4:00 p.m.). The championship game is slated for 6:00 p.m. and will feature the top-two teams in the standings.
Stehly played all 18 games for the Friars in 2010 and appeared in the starting line-up 14 times. She is a two-time NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad honoree and earned BIG EAST Academic All-Star recognition during the 2009-10 academic calendar.
Upon completion of the Junior National Championship, Stehly will return home to Valley Center, Calif. to continue her preparation for the upcoming 2011 season with the Friars. Providence College opens its schedule with back-to-back home games against Northeastern (8/28, 1:00 p.m.) and UC Davis (8/29, 4:00 p.m.).
