Providence Names Tina Cormier Assistant Field Hockey Coach

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - On Monday, May 13, Providence College Head Field Hockey Coach Diane Madl announced the appointment of Tina Cormier as assistant field hockey coach.

Cormier comes to Providence with coaching experience at the collegiate, high school and youth levels. A native of Ste-Marie de Kent, New Brunswick, Cormier served as a part-time assistant field hockey coach at the University of New Brunswick. Cormier also served as the assistant field hockey and assistant ice hockey coach at Sussex Regional High School. She also coached a 12-14 year old girls field hockey team in Germany, and has been involved with numerous Provincial Field Hockey teams in New Brunswick.

Cormier, a 2001 graduate of the University of New Brunswick (Canada), has earned numerous accolades for her prowess on the field hockey field. In 2001, Cormier was honored as the University of New Brunswick's Female Athlete of the Year. In 2000, she earned the Liz Hoffman Player of the Year Award (MVP) as part of the Canadian Inter-University Athletic Union (C.I.A.U.). Cormier was selected as the Dr. Garnett Copeland Medal Winner as the top all-around athlete at the University of New Brunswick in 1999. She is a C.I.A.U. First-Team All-Canadian selection (1996-00) and a A.U.A.A. Field Hockey Most Valuable Player honoree (1996-00). In her first year at UNB in 1996, Cormier was recognized as a C.I.A.U. and A.U.A.A. Field Hockey Rookie of the Year, and UNB Rookie of the Year.

Cormier earned a bachelor's degree in education and kinesiology from the University of New Brunswick, and has been working as a physical education teacher, responsible for approximately 300 children ranging in grade levels from kindergarten to eighth grade.
