Senior field hockey player Katie Willett was honored by the R.I.A.I.A.W. as a 2002 Distinguished Student-Athlete of the Year.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior field hockey stand-out, Katie Willett (Biddeford, Maine) represents Providence College as the Rhode Island Association for Intercollegiate Athletics For Women (R.I.A.I.A.W.) Distinguished Student-Athlete of the Year. Willett was honored at a reception, held on the campus of Bryant College on Wednesday, May 8.

Willett, registered a career high in goals (two), assists (three) and points (seven) during her senior season, as the Friars' starting centerback and team captain. Willett was named 2001 STX/NFHCA First Team Regional All-American and First-Team All-BIG EAST for her efforts. Willett also earned NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad honors for the third time in her career, and is a three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star. In 1999-00 she earned GTE Academic All-District Fall/Winter At-Large Second Team honors, and was a Second Team All-BIG EAST selection during her sophomore and junior seasons. In 1998, Willett was named to the BIG EAST Rookie Team.

Willett is a marketing major and currently holds a cumulative GPA of 3.88 through the fall semester. Willett will graduate in May and will begin an internship this summer with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), in Indianapolis, Indiana. A native of Biddeford, Maine, she is the daughter of Kathleen and Michael Willett.
