PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College field hockey coach Diane Madl announced on April 26 that student athletes Maggie Ciarcia (Dennis, Mass.), Meghan Holden (Worcester, Mass.), Alex Kister (St. Louis, Mo.), Ali Kornfeld (Kingston, Pa.), Jess Lane (South Windsor, Conn.) and Stephanie Scavelli (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) have each signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Providence College in the fall of 2005.

Ciarcia, a native of Dennis, Mass., is a defender. She earned Boston Globe All-Star honors and was named a "Best of 60 in Massachusetts" All-Star and earned Boston Globe All-Scholastic recognition. Ciarcia captained her team at Dennis-Yarmouth High School and also has participated in the Bay State Games.

Holden, a native of Worcester, Mass., currently attends Notre Dame Academy. She is a two-time conference all-star and led Notre Dame Academy to two Massachusetts State Championships during her career. She is a two-time Worcester Telegram & Gazette Dream Team All-Star and was tabbed a "Best of 60 in Massachusetts" All-Star as a senior. Holden, an attacker, set a school records in scoring with 63 goals and 27 assists for 153 career points. She also holds the school record at Notre Dame Academy for goals in a single season (31) and goals in a game (five).

Kister, a native of St. Louis, Mo., can play attack and midfield. She captained her team at Villa Duschesne School and earned All-Metro honors. Kister is a member of Elite Futures.

Kornfeld, who hails from Kingston, Pa., is an All-Scholastic selection at midfield. She led Wyoming Seminary to two State Championship games during her career. Kornfeld's team earned the State title during her freshman season in 2001 and finished as runner-up during her senior campaign in 2004.

Lane, a defender from South Windsor, Conn., is a two-time, First-Team All-State honoree, a three-time All-Conference selection. Lane served as team captain during her senior year at South Windsor High School and also was selected to the All-Hartford Courant Team as a junior and senior. Lane is a Junior Olympian and has competed at the National Futures Tournament three times.
 

 

Scavelli, who comes to Providence from Yorktown Heights, N.Y., is an accomplished goalkeeper. She is a two-time First Team NFHCA High School All-American and two-time All-State selection. She helped guide Lakeland High School to the New York State Championship as a junior in 2003. Scavelli also is a two-time Junior Olympian and has competed at the National Futures Tournament three times.
