Four Field Hockey Players Earn 2002 NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad Honors
March 19, 2002 PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Seniors Kara Lukens (Pennsburg, Pa.) and Katie Willett (Biddeford, Maine), junior Lyndsey Brooks (New Fairfield, Conn.) and sophomore Casey Geary (Norwood, Mass.) have been selected to the 2001 NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad. Three hundred seventy-four student-athletes who compete in the sport of field hockey at the Division I level qualified for the honor. Qualified student-athletes must have attained a minimum overall grade-point average of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2001-02 academic year and are starters or key reserves on their respective teams. Lukens recently finished her second year with the Friars after transferring from Temple University. She started in all 19 of PC's games in 2001 as the team's sweeper, recording her first collegiate goal and assist as Friar. Lukens was selected to the All-BIG EAST Second Team and earned STX/NFHCA Division I Northeast Regional Second-Team All-America honors. Lukens currently has a 3.75 cumulative grade-point average as a biology major. A native of Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, she is the daughter of Allen and Carolyn Lukens. Willett, a four-year starter at center back, finished the 2001 season with a career-high seven points on two goals and three assists. She was selected to the All-BIG EAST First Team and earned STX/NFHCA Division I Northeast Regional First-Team All-America honors. Willett currently has a 3.88 cumulative GPA as a marketing major. A native of Biddeford, Maine, she is the daughter of Kathleen and Michael Willett. Brooks started all 19 games at center midfield for the Friars in 2001. She scored a personal best five points on a career-high two goals and one assist. Brooks' assist was the first of her career. She earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors. Brooks has earned a 3.34 cumulative grade-point average as a marketing major. She is the daughter of Kenneth and Carol Brooks, who reside in New Fairfield, Connecticut. Geary, a midfielder and forward, started in all 19 of PC's games this season. She scored one point on one assist. She earned BIG EAST Academic All-Star, and Rookie of the Week honors (925/00) honors during the 2000 field hockey season. Geary has earned a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average as a elementary education/special education major. A native of Norwood, Massachusetts, she is the daughter of Gail and George Geary.
