PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced last week that Providence College student-athletes Todd Stigliano (Newington, Conn.) and graduate student Kara Lukens (Pennsburg, Pa.) each earned a $2,000 BIG EAST/Aeropostale Scholar Student-Athlete Award. Stigliano and Lukens will receive the stipend for graduate studies.

Stigliano, a four-year letterwinner with the Friar men's soccer team, has been named a BIG EAST Academic All-Star each of the last three years. The senior computer science major, played in 47 career games for the Friars and recorded 15 points (seven goals, one assist) in four seasons. This season, he helped the Friars post a 7-11 mark and a 5-5 record in league play.

Lukens, a three-year letterwinner and senior captain of the Friar field hockey team, scored a career-high four goals and added one assist for nine points during the 2002 season. She anchored PC's defense, and finished the year tied for first on the team with two defensive saves. Lukens finished her career at Providence with 12 points on five goals and two assists. In 2001, Lukens earned All-BIG EAST Second-Team honors and was named a STX/NFHCA Second-Team Regional All-American. Lukens earned All-BIG EAST honors for the second time in her career on November 7 as a member of the First Team. Lukens helped the Friars to an 8-12 overall record and a 1-4 mark in the BIG EAST Conference.
