PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College freshman field hockey player Maddie Babineau (Milton, Ontario) has been named to Canada’s Phase-1 Women’s Indoor National Squad. The squad currently consists of an extended 27-player roster that will train during the first phase of a four-year cycle in an effort to qualify for the next FIH Indoor World Cup.

Babineau started all 18 games in the midfield as a freshmen at Providence College in 2017. She tallied six points on one goal and four assists. On Sept. 15, Babineau recorded a career-high four points in a 4-2 victory against BIG EAST foe Temple with one goal and two assists.

The Friars finished the season with an 11-8 overall record and a 4-2 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. Providence qualified for the BIG EAST Tournament for the 17th time in program history, and the third time in the last four seasons. Providence fell to eventual NCAA Champion Connecticut in the BIG EAST semifinals on Nov. 3.
