    Providence Field Hockey Wins Fourth Straight - Defeats Connecticut, 3-2

    Providence, RI -- The Lady Friars defeated the defending BIG EAST Champion Huskies this afternoon at Hendricken Field, 3-2 in front of 350 fans. It was PC's first victory against Connecticut since 1992 and last at home since the 1989 campaign.

    Senior Mollie Costello (Los Gatos, CA) scored her first career goal as she got the Friars on the board early, scoring 2:45 into the game. The goal was assisted by sophomore Jennifer D'Amore (Rome, NY) as she dished off to Costello on the corner hit. Connecticut sophomore Marya McAndrew tied the score with 22:08 remaining in the half.

    PC went up 2-1 when Junior Katie Lachapelle (Lewiston, ME) tapped it around Connecticut's goalie, Danielle Vile for the score.

    Connecticut knotted the game at 2-2 when sophomore Carrie Mahoney scored on a penalty stroke as PC was called for tripping inside the circle. PC's gamewinner was scored with 16:41 remaining as Connecticut native Erica Hebert (Enfield, CT) lifted the ball over the goalie's head on a corner hit from senior Paula Wagoner (Toledo, OH).

    Sophomore goalie Andrea Weyl (Ridgefield, CT) had 11 saves including one save on a penalty stroke late in the game.

    PC improves to 4-0 on the season - its best start since the 1989 campaign. The Friars host Brown on Wednesday at 3:30.
