Field Hockey Defeated By UConn, 2-0, In BIG EAST Championship Game
Nov. 5, 2000 STORRS, Conn. -- The University of Connecticut defeated Providence College, 2-0, in the Championship game of the BIG EAST Field Hockey Tournament at Storrs, Conn., on Sunday, November 5. With the win, the Huskies captured their fifth BIG EAST Field Hockey title. Making their fifth appearance in the BIG EAST title game and first since 1989, the Friars entered the game looking to upset the 10th-ranked Huskies and earn the team's third BIG EAST crown. The Friars held the Huskies scoreless for most of the first half until Kelly Cochrane netted the game's first goal at 7:44 to give UConn a 1-0 lead. Katie Stephens scored UConn's second goal at 26:45 of the second period on a penalty stroke to seal the win for the Huskies. UConn goalkeeper Alana Linick made three stops in the win. PC goalkeeper Heather Tattersall registered 11 stops in the game. With the win, Connecticut improved to 16-6 overall, while the Friars finished their season with a 7-15 mark.
