Friars Roll Past Colgate, 5-1, In Field Hockey Action
Oct. 24, 1999 Providence, R.I. - The Providence College Field Hockey team defeated Colgate University Sunday at Hendricken Field, 5-1. The Friars jumped ahead early when senior forward Carrie Leoncavallo (Bellingham, MA) scored unassisted with 30:49 left in the first half. Twenty seconds later freshman midfielder Lyndsey Brooks (Brewster, NY) added her first collegiate goal to give PC a 2-0 lead. Colgate fought back to cut the lead to 2-1 when junior Johanna Harvey scored unassisted. Freshman midfielder Courtney Dow (Hampstead, NH), assisted by junior midfielder Amy DePietro (Southbury, CT), gave the Friars a 3-1 advantage at halftime with her first collegiate goal. In the second half Leoncavallo and senior foward Erica Hebert (Enfield, CT) each scored unassisted to put Providence ahead 5-1. Junior goalkeeper Heather Tattersall (Bethlehem, NH), making her first start of the season, allowed just one goal on eleven shots while collecting four saves. Colgate goalies Natalie McLenaghan and Sara Concoran stopped sixteen of the Friar shots on goal. Providence tallied thirty-three shots and eight penalty corners while Colgate recorded eleven shots and two penalty corners. The Friars improve to 6-11 overall while Colgate falls to 4-11 overall.
