Friars Fall to Syracuse

Providence, RI - The Providence College Field Hockey team was defeated by Syracuse University this afternoon at Hendricken Field, 2-1 in overtime. It is the first time this season the Friars were forced to overtime.

Freshman forward Michelle Marks put Syracuse ahead 1-0 in the first half with an unassisted goal. The Friars fought back in the second half when freshman foward Jen Chin (Norwood, MA) scored with an assist from senior foward Carrie Leoncavallo (Bellingham, MA). The score was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation play. At 7:21 left in sudden death overtime, Syracuse's senior midfielder Kelly Hambleton helped freshman midfielder Kristin Aronowicz score the winning goal, putting the Orangewomen ahead 2-1.

Providence tallied thirteen shots and ten penalty corners while the Orangewomen recorded thirteen shots and five penalty corners.

Providence goalie Andrea Weyl(Ridgefield, CT) made nine saves while Syracuse goalie Audrey Latsko stopped seven of the Friar shots on goal. The Friars fall to 5-11 overall and 1-4 in the BIG EAST while Syracuse is now 12-5 overall and 3-1 in the league.
