Field Hockey Falls To Brown, 4-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team fell to cross-town rival Brown, 4-0, in non-conference action on Wednesday, October 22 in Providence, R.I. The Friars fall to 8-9 overall this season, while Brown improves to 8-5 overall. The Bears first goal came at the 18:27 mark of the first half as Lizzie Buza connected on the first of team leading two goals during the game. Buza's goal was unassisted. Brown took its 1-0 lead into halftime. In the second half Brown recorded an unassisted goal from Molly Carleton at the 15:49 mark to take a 2-0 lead. Buza netted her second goal of the afternoon on a penalty corner with 9:18 remaining in the game. Assists were credited to Julia Kelderman and Meaghan Harwood. The Bears scored their fourth and final goal of the afternoon with 2:05 remaining in the contest as Carleton netted her second goal of the day off of an assist from Buza. Senior goalkeeper Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) played 62:36 minutes of action for the Friars. Moran posted nine saves and allowed three Brown goals. Junior Meredith Jones (Forest Park, Ill.) played the final 7:24 in the cage for PC. Jones allowed one goal and did not make a save. Brown's Kathryn Noe played all 70 minutes for the Bears in goal. She earned the shut-out victory with five saves. Providence (8-9, 0-3 BIG EAST) will finish out the 2003 schedule with two BIG EAST Conference games against Villanova and Connecticut. The Friars face the Villanova Wildcats on Sunday in Villanova, Pa. at 1:00 p.m. PC wraps up the regular-season in Storrs, Conn. against the Huskies on Saturday, November 1 at 1:00 p.m.
