Field Hockey Upsets 15th-Ranked Syracuse In OT, 2-1

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Providence College Friars defeated No. 15 Syracuse University, 2-1, in overtime in BIG EAST field hockey action at Syracuse, N.Y., on Friday, October 20. Freshman Stefanie Suehnholz (Flemington, N.J.) scored the game winner for the Friars with 35 seconds remaining in overtime.

After a scoreless first half, Syracuse junior Michelle Aronowicz (Exton, Pa.) netted the first goal of the game with 15:52 remaining in the game. Senior Breanne Wojnarowicz (Holden, Mass.) evened the game at 1-1 at the 5:22 mark.

Suehnholz provided the heroics for the Friars when she dodged a defender and blasted a shot past Syracuse goalkeeper Audrey Latsko (Emmaus, Pa.) to give the Friars their second consecutive win over a ranked team.

PC senior goalkeeper Heather Tattersall (Bethlehem, Pa.) registered 12 stops in the win. Latsko registered six stops for Syracuse.

With the win, Providence improved to 6-12 overall and 2-3 in the BIG EAST, while Syracuse fell to 11-6 overall and 2-2 in league play.

Providence College returns to action on Sunday, October 22 at Colgate at Noon.
