PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team fell to Syracuse, 1-0, in BIG EAST Conference action on Friday, October 17 in Providence, R.I. The Friars fall to 8-8 overall on the season and 0-3 in the BIG EAST, while Syracuse improves to 5-8 overall and 1-3 in the league.

The Orangewomen scored the lone goal of the game with 21:55 remaining in the first half on a penalty corner. Michelle Sola received a pass from Meredith Gettel at the top of the circle and took a direct shot on goal. The ball took an odd bounce off the grass and slipped passed PC's keeper for the score. The goal proved to be decisive as both teams were held scoreless the remainder of the game.

Providence outshot Syracuse, 11-6. The two teams were even on penalty corner attempts with eight apiece. Senior goalkeeper Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) made one save in the loss, while Betsy Wagner recorded five saves for Orangewomen.

Providence (8-8, 0-3 BIG EAST) will return to action on Wednesday, October 22 against Brown in non-conference action. The game will be played at Brown University in Providence, R.I. beginning at 4:00 p.m.
