DURHAM, N.H. - The 14th-ranked Providence College field hockey team defeated New Hampshire, 4-1, in non-conference action on Sunday, October 15 in Durham, N.H. The Friars improve to 13-3 overall, while New Hampshire falls to 1-13 on the season. Senior Melissa McGow (Branford, Conn.) scored one goal and added two assists in the victory.

Junior Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.) connected on PC's first goal of the day, unassisted at the 13:26 mark to put the Friars ahead, 1-0. At the 17:47 mark, freshman Nellie Poulin (Oakland, Maine) collected a crossing pass from McGow at the post and slipped it past UNH's goalkeeper. McGow put Providence ahead, 3-0, on an unassisted goal with 3:30 remaining in the first half.

In the second half, junior Michalagh Stoddard (Norwood, Mass.) scored the first goal of her collegiate career at 64:09 off a direct shot on a penalty corner to put the Friars up, 4-0. Stoddard's goal was assisted by McGow and sophomore Meghan Holden (Worcester, Mass.).

New Hampshire finally got on the board with 3:54 remaining in the game as Megan Shea netted an unassisted tally to make the final score, 4-1.

Providence outshot UNH, 24-14, including a 20-9 advantage in shots on goal. New Hampshire held the advantage in penalty corners, 11-6.

PC freshman goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) recorded eight saves in the victory. Margaux Shute stopped 16 shots on goal for UNH in the loss.
 

 

Providence College (13-3, 3-1 BIG EAST) returns to action against cross-city rival Brown in non-conference action on Wednesday, October 18. The game will be played on Warner Roof at 4:00 p.m. on the campus of Brown University in Providence, R.I. The Friar's next home game is scheduled for Sunday, October 22 against BIG EAST foe Villanova. The game will be played at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. at 1:00 p.m.
